1692 – Salem Witch Trials Begin

01 Feb

The initial events that began the Trials began in February, with two young girls, cousins Abigail Williams and Betty Parris, began having a strange series of epileptic episodes that doctors diagnosed as the work of witchcraft.  By the middle of 1693, over 150 people were accused of working evil magic and nineteen were executed and buried in unmarked graves near Gallows Hill.  The site of the hangings was recently confirmed to have been a spot known as Proctor Ridge.
